Baker Park to Boynton

Subject: Bike to School Day, Friday May 16, 2008
To celebrate bike-to-work/school day, we’re organizing a “rolling school bus” of Boynton students to school this Friday, May 16th. If your kid(s) are comfortable on a bike, we hope they will join this adult-escorted cycling “bus” both to and from school on Friday. (Parents are welcome to come too!) Our route is betweenBaker Park and the school. On the way in, students can join us at any point along the way, and then leave us at the same spot on the way home. Pick your reason to join us: it’s fun, saves money, provides exercise, develops skills, reduces pollution, and often even saves time. Also, you might get your picture in the Ithaca Journal. See <http://icycle.org/biketowork/>http://icycle.org/biketowork/ for more information.
All the details are below. Please contact us if you have any questions. We hope to ride with your child to school on Friday!
The “rolling school bus” will leave at 8:25am from Baker Park (near the roundabout on Elmira Road, on the corner of Elmira Road and Park Street) and head north the entire length of Plain Street to Cascadilla Street. Turning right on Cascadilla Street, it will make a stop at Thompson Park (perhaps better known as Bell Park) on Cayuga Street across from Gimme. At 8:40 the group will continue along Farm Street to Tioga Street, and then go north along Tioga to stop at the Fall Creek Cinema parking lot. At 8:45 the rolling school bus will continue east on Fall Street and then head north along Lake Street to Boynton Middle School, where it’s scheduled to arrive at 8:50am. The rolling school bus can be flagged down anywhere along its route to allow kids to join.
After school, the rolling school bus will leave Boynton Middle School at 3:35pm, going back the same route. At 3:40pm it will arrive at Fall Creek Cinema, at 3:45pm at Thompson Park, and arrive 4pm at Baker Park. A map of the route can be downloaded from:

All kids who want to join the rolling school bus must have a bike in good condition (working brakes, inflated tires, and so on), must be able to ride their bike confidently, and must wear a helmet. A bike lock is strongly encouraged as well. Depending on the weather, rain gear may be advisable as well. The rolling school bus and its organizers are not responsible for bikes, and will make every attempt to leave all stops on time. Kids who miss the bus must find alternative transportation by themselves.
Riders do not need to sign up. For more information, please contact Robbert van Renesse at 273-4733 (home), 255-1021 (work), or by email at <mailto:rvr@cs.cornell.edu>rvr@cs.cornell.edu. We welcome parents who would like to accompany the bus (by bicycle) or help out in any other way.
